Supported players, computers and apps

Solco is in private alpha. This page says what it works with and, just as plainly, what hasn't been tested yet.

Players

Solco writes the Device Library (export.pdb), the rekordbox USB library that Pioneer DJ and AlphaTheta players have read for years. It works with any player that reads the Device Library, such as the CDJ-3000, CDJ-2000NXS2, XDJ-XZ and XDJ-RX3.

Tested so far: the XDJ-RX3, CDJ-2000NXS2, CDJ-2000 and XDJ-1000MK2 have played Solco USBs.

Not covered: players that read only rekordbox 7's newer OneLibrary, which AlphaTheta lists as the CDJ-3000X, XDJ-AZ, OPUS-QUAD and OMNIS-DUO. On a drive rekordbox exported to, Solco also adds its tracks to the drive's OneLibrary, but no OneLibrary player has been tried with it yet.

What players can and can't show:

  • Eight track colours and hot cues A to H. Other colours become the nearest of the eight, and hot cues after H become memory cues.
  • No Ogg Vorbis or Opus files. They stay off the drive, and the plan names them.
  • Solco measures each track's loudness, but doesn't change the exported audio or set the player's gain.
  • USB drives must be formatted as FAT32.

On a rekordbox 7 drive Solco added to, an XDJ-RX3 listed both apps' tracks and playlists, with Solco's covers, waveforms, beatgrids, keys, BPM and cues. Loops, seeking and played sets on such a drive haven't been tried on a player yet.

Computers

  • Mac: Apple Silicon (M1 or later) with macOS 13.4 or later. Intel Macs are not supported. macOS 13.4 itself hasn't been tested yet.
  • Windows: 64-bit Windows on Intel and AMD processors. Tested on Windows 11 24H2; earlier versions are untested.
  • Linux: 64-bit x86-64 and ARM64, as DEB and RPM packages or a portable archive.

Analysis uses a supported graphics card when there is one, and the processor otherwise. On some integrated graphics, beat analysis can make the interface stutter.

Apps

  • rekordbox 6 and 7: Solco imports the library directly, or from an XML export, and only ever reads it. It adds to USB drives rekordbox made, and rekordbox 7 reads the beatgrids, cues and waveforms Solco writes.
  • Traktor: Solco imports collection.nml and exports a Traktor collection with cues, loops and grids. Traktor Pro 4 is untested.
  • Apple Music: Solco imports playlists and ratings directly on a Mac, or from an exported Library.xml.
  • Serato DJ, Engine DJ, VirtualDJ and others: Solco exports M3U8 playlists, with no cues or grids.

Known limitations

  • Exported Traktor and M3U8 playlists point at your music where it is on this computer.
  • Traktor holds one tempo per track, so a track whose tempo changes gets the closest single tempo.
  • The style, mood and energy readings are curation aids from learned models. Listen before you trust them.
  • Each alpha build expires after 30 days. See "The private alpha and its expiry date".
