Updating Solco

New alpha builds come out often, and each one runs for 30 days. Solco can find and install them for you. Updating from inside Solco When a newer alpha is out, a slim banner appears under the title bar. 1. Click Download. Nothing is downloaded until you do: a build is about 130 MB, and you might be on a phone connection. 2. When the download is ready, click Restart to update. Solco closes the way it always does: running exports and backups are asked about first, and cancelling the quit cancels the restart. The new version starts by itself. If it doesn't start, the update is rolled back to the version you had. Every download is checked against a signature from the Solco team before it is installed, and on a Mac it must also be signed by the same developer and approved by macOS. An expired alpha can still update itself. Checking for updates With Check for updates on in Settings › About (it is on by default), Solco asks GitHub for the list of releases when it starts and then once a day. The request carries only Solco's version. Click Check now to check straight away. Turn Check for updates off and Solco makes no update requests at all. Updating by hand Download the new build from the Solco releases page and install it over the old one, as in "Installing Solco on macOS, Windows and Linux". Your library and settings are kept. Update by hand when: - you installed the Linux .deb or .rpm package: install the new package the same way; - an update on Windows fails and rolls back: install the new .msi by hand once; - the release notes ask you to, for example when a portable copy needs the full archive. Before switching builds, save a library backup: see "Backing up and restoring your Solco library".

Privacy, error reports and diagnostics

Solco analyses your music on your computer. Your music files, library, playlists and analysis are never uploaded. This page lists everything Solco does send. The full legal notice is the app privacy notice. Error and crash reports Official Solco releases send error and crash reports automatically, so problems can be fixed. A report holds the error, what led up to it, and details about the app version, operating system, graphics and analysis. It can name tracks and parts of file paths, with your user folder's name replaced by ~. It never includes your music, your library or your credentials. A crash can also send a small memory snapshot of the app. Reports go to an error tracker in Germany: Sentry's EU region for builds up to 0.9.0-alpha.2, and from the next alpha on, Solco's own error tracker at errors.plenty.is, on our server in Nuremberg, with no third party. There is no switch for them in the app during the alpha. Usage counts Once a day, Solco sends a ping with a random installation ID, the Solco version and your operating system, so we know how many people use which version. No music, file paths or library data. Turn it off with Share usage counts in Settings › About. Update checks Solco asks GitHub for the list of releases when it starts and once a day, sending only its version. Downloads also come from GitHub. Turn this off with Check for updates in Settings › About. See "Updating Solco". Tag and cover lookups When you look up tags and covers, Solco sends search details such as artist, title or an audio fingerprint (a short code computed from the sound, never the audio itself) to MusicBrainz, AcoustID and Discogs. Lookups run only when you start them on the Tags page. Keys you save in Settings › Tags & covers stay on your computer, outside your library. Playlist assistant The playlist assistant is optional. Before it sends anything to Solco's service, you choose to share your requests, the conversation and a summary of your library: how many tracks you have, your genre and style names with their counts, and how many tracks are analysed. No audio, file paths or track titles, though anything you type is sent. Solco's service passes it to OpenRouter and a model provider, and keeps no copy of the conversation unless a request fails unexpectedly. You can also connect your own provider, or a model on your own computer with Ollama. Feedback Messages you write in Feedback go to the Solco team's support system (Chatwoot, which we run ourselves at support.plenty.is, on our server in Helsinki) only when you send them, with your Solco version, operating system and processor type. An email address and the diagnostic summary are sent only if you add them, and you can read the summary first. The conversation stays in the support system until it is deleted. The chat on this help center goes to the same support system, with the email address and name you give it. Diagnostic reports A report from Settings › About › Report a problem is made on your computer and never uploaded by Solco. You read it, then copy or save it yourself. See "Contacting the Solco team". Your data To ask what we hold about you, or to have it deleted, write to hello@plenty.is, as the app privacy notice explains.
